Postal Updates
Postal shoot tomorrow (Saturday 2 Nov)
Dear all
You will all be aware from reading Marion’s update email earlier in the week that it is the first of the indoor season’s postal shoots on Saturday 2 November.
The Postal shoots are a Portsmouth round and shooting:
· 60 arrows shot in ends of 3 arrows (30 arrows for the Junior Postal)
· 20 yards
· 60cm target
· 10 zone scoring (unless you shoot a triple spot target)
Please get to the hall promptly (we can normally get in before 2:30pm – usually soon after 2.15pm) so we can get set-up and make a start as close to 2:30pm as we can.
As well as the scores counting towards the Postal league they also contribute towards the club Grand Prix and count towards your indoor classification. As a reminder the classification scores for a Portsmouth are:
GENTLEMEN & JUNIOR BOYS – RECURVE
| A | B | C | D | E | F | G | H | |
| Portsmouth | 592 | 582 | 554 | 505 | 432 | 315 | 195 | 139 |

Wednesday 13 November – session cancelled
Dear all
We have had a message from the Alameda Middle School that administers the hall:
I’m afraid that I have to ask you to cancel your session on Wednesday 13th November, as the school needs the sports hall for an open evening event. This event will run from 6pm onwards, until 8.30 or 9pm. The date has been moved for reasons outside my control. Please accept my apologies for the short notice, and for the inconvenience to your members.
All other sessions will run as normal.

Updates after Club Portsmouth
12 October – 1st Club shoot (scoring round) of the indoor season
Dear all
As you are all aware we are indoors now on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons.
This Saturday sees the first of our club shoots. Its an opportunity to work towards your indoor classification (see the scores below) which of course means a badge (Huzzah!), you will need three scores at the appropriate classification during the indoor season to get your badge.
On Saturday we are shooting a Portsmouth round. For those that are unsure that means we will be shooting:
- 20 yards
- 60cm target
- 10 zone scoring (unless you shoot a triple spot target)
- 60 arrows shot in ends of 3 arrows
There will be plenty of help available for those that have not shot a scoring round before.
If you don’t want to shoot the round, that’s fine, all we ask is that you fit in with the rest of the shooting line.
Please get to the hall promptly (we can normally get in before 2:30pm – usually soon after 2.15pm) so we can get set-up and make a start as close to 2:30pm as we can.
The Winter Season
Please refer to the shooting schedule for when and what we are shooting this winter – sent round previously and attached as well.
The dates are also on the Club Calendar.

Junior League
Postal League
Juniors have their own exclusive Postal!
As well as the Junior Recurve team in the normal postal we have managed to enter a Recurev and a Compund team in the Perris Junior Indoor Postal League.
The round is shot over 30 arrows ie. half a Portsmouth. The first 30 arrow score of a full portsmouth can be used as entry for this postal.
The 30 arrows can be scored at any time during the month and as many times as you want and the highest score submitted.
This league starts in October, not November as the ‘normal’ So you need to get scoring NOW.
Juniors what to do.
Help yourself to a scoresheet and board from the bag, get someone to help you score, dont forget you should not write down you own scores. Shoot your 30 arrows.
Sign and get the scorer to sign our scoresheet and put it in the folder behind the noticeboard.
Then do it again at another indoor session and see if you can improve on it.
What I will do is at the end of the last session of each month remove the sheets create a team of three from the best scores and submit them to the league. I will also take into account the first 30 arrows of any portsmouth that you shoot during that month. I will have scores from the ‘normal’ postals and any shot at clophill, but if you shoot a portsmouth any where else, let me have the score before the end of the month.
Bow loans and field party
Dear All
On Saturday 28th September at 10.00 am we will be having our normal tidy up at the field and put everything away for winter.
It is expected that all members will be there to lend a hand to complete the tasks on the attached list. Please bring forks, spades, shovel, rakes etc if possible. The indoor stands and bosses will be loaded onto a trailer for transportation down to the Alameda sports hall in Ampthill, the rest of the equipment into members cars for our first indoor session starting at 2.30 that afternoon.
Further to this, Andy, our field officer, is trying to organise a small group of people to share the mowing during the next outdoor season. If you are willing to help, please send him an email on ARalphs.
The plan for next season is for Andy to send an email to the people who have volunteered, with the intention of one or possibly two of them offering to mow during the following couple of weeks.
The best time for mowing is during the work-day, when the field is less used. But not necessarily limited to that.
We will get the mower out for an end of season clean at the Autumn field party and if anybody is interested, a quick spin round to give them an idea of how it all works.
To all those members who will require to borrow a bow for the winter indoor season. This will take place during the field party on the 28th September. A separate reminder will be distributed at the beginning of next week.
The procedure we have in place, is to borrow the bow you have been using upon the payment of a £60 refundable deposit. All the items included with the bow will be logged down on a form for this purpose. The club will keep one form and you will be given a duplicate. Upon returning the complete set of equipment in good order the deposit will be returned. Any damaged or lost items will be charged for and the deposit refund reduced by that amount.
If you have any questions about any of the above, please see Andy re the mowing and myself for the equipment loan.
Hope to see you all there at the field on the 28th from 10 am
Regards Terry
