Shooting for the county – if interested, please read

Dear all We have new County Team managers, they will be familiar to you, it is Suzi and Terry.

I am charged with canvassing Clophill members for those that would be interested in shooting for the County and making representations on your behalf to the County Team Managers.

The first part of selection is for you to shoot at one of the two selection shoots, both are held at our field on:
1. 28 April
2. 5 May
Please see the attached for further details.

If you are interested please let me know (by replying to this email) which shoot you will come along to, or both ( I presume that is OK – I’m sure “The Management” will let me know if not). Please let me know before 21 April as Suzi/Terry want to put together a target list.

Also, if you are interested but cannot make either of the shoots, please let me know along with a couple of your outdoor scores and I will plead your case.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Use of the field and parental supervision

In view of a recent enquiry we, as a committee, have reviewed the rules of shooting as regards the use of our field and also our responsibilities with regards to children and young people.

General use of the field by Clophill members

The AGB rules of shooting advise:

(a) When any shooting is in progress there must be a minimum of two people present each being a minimum of 18 years of age, one of whom may be a non-archer to act as a lookout. The archer is responsible to inform the lookout of all safety aspects applicable. Where two adult archers are present and shooting together they will alternate on the shooting line so that the non-shooting archer can act as the lookout.

(b) Juniors. When junior archers (ie archers under 18) are shooting individually or in groups they must be supervised by an adult member (excluding honorary members) of Archery GB and a second adult must be present.

(c) On private land which is fenced all round, where the public has no legal right of access and with a warning notice displayed at all entrances and points of access, the following concessions may apply notwithstanding the provisions of 103(a) and (b) above: (i) Solo shooting by senior archers (ie archers 18 and over) is permitted. Any member shooting on their own is doing so at their own risk in respect of personal injuries. (ii) Provided that they are an adult member (excluding honorary members) of Archery GB, one parent/guardian alone may supervise his/her own child(ren). “

As our field is fully fenced senior archers may shoot on their own, but please note in (c) above that there must be a warning sign displayed – so please remember to drop the Clophill Archery Club sign so it reads Archery in Progress.

Children and young people

Archery GB’s safeguarding policy it is clear that:

“A child or young person ……. is any person under 18.”

Therefore all juniors, 18 and under, must be supervised at all times by a parent or appointed guardian behind the shooting line whilst shooting. This is to satisfy safeguarding rules as per AGB – the policy is available to view on the AGB website.

If that parent or guardian is a member of AGB no other person is required. If they are not, another person who is a member of AGB must be present.

As a club we are bound to comply with AGB’s rules of shooting as the insurance they provide is dependant on the rules being followed.

Thanks all

Clophill AC Committee

50th Anniversary Club Championships

As we finish the outdoor season without work party it is worth remembering that, 2018 has seen Clophill Archery Club celebrate its 50th Anniversary. for those that were there, archers marked the occasion at the Outdoor Championships on the 1st of September with cake and a BBQ.

For those that remember the Club Chairman, Terry Course, said a few words while cutting the splendid cake, thanking the members for ensuring the success of the club and raising a toast to the next 50 years.

Attached to this is the results from that shoot.
